It’s no secret that the road can be a perilous place for animals and humans alike if we’re not cautious. Sadly, it’s all too frequent to hear about animals being struck by trucks, with millions losing their lives to this in America alone. What’s worse is that those responsible often don’t stop to check on the injured animal, leaving them without any assistance or care.
In a small town in northern Alberta, Canada, a poor little puppy suffered a b.r.o.k.e.n pelvis and was unable to move in the frigid temperatures. It seemed like her chances of survival were slim. Luckily, a group of compassionate teenagers spotted her and contacted the AB Task Force, which then reached out to the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). However, upon arriving at the scene, the rescuers discovered that the puppy had an open fracture. One of the teenagers who found her was defensive and claimed that he wanted to test his strength on her.
According to AARCS, the puppy was left alone and exposed to the cold for more than 12 hours before being discovered and taken to SAVE vet. Despite her weak and cold state, the puppy had managed to melt the snow beneath her with her body heat. The rescuers were doubtful about the puppy’s chances of survival but acted quickly and transported her to the hospital. Fortunately, the doctors were able to treat the pup’s pelvis injury, and she was given a comfortable crate to rest and recover in. The rescuers named her Nutmeg due to her unique rusty orange-colored fur. Overall, it’s heartening to know that the puppy received timely treatment and care, saving her from an otherwise bleak outcome.
Nutmeg spent a complete six weeks inside the crate, but she enjoyed every bit of it as she received countless delicious treats, endless attention, and ample love from everyone around her. Nutmeg was so grateful that she showed her appreciation to her rescuers by showering them with kisses and wagging her tail excitedly. AARCS expressed their joy for this lovely girl by stating, “She received an abundance of treats, gave lots of kisses, and was filled with happiness throughout her stay!”
It appears that Nutmeg has found her permanent residence with her new affectionate family. It is truly commendable that we possess the ability to care for and support animals. Gratitude should be given to the adolescents who discovered Nutmeg and the unwavering determination of AARCS, for without them, it is uncertain if the puppy would have even survived in the frigid weather for an extended period.
