The Marvel Cinematic Universe is willing to go all out to bring back Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson

One way to ruin a story is by bringing back ᴅᴇᴀᴅ characters without explanation, as was seen in the disappointing Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker. Unfortunately, it seems that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be headed down the same path. According to an article from Variety titled “Crisis at Marvel: Jonathan Majors Back-Up Plans, ‘The Marvels’ reshoots, Reviving Original Avengers and More Issues Revealed,” there are reports of behind-the-scenes problems at Marvel Studios.

The main issue for Marvel seems to be Jonathan Majors, the actor portraying the primary antagonist Kang, who is currently facing charges of domestic violence. A “dealmaker” summed up the situation by claiming that Marvel is in a tough spot with the Kang storyline.

In case they decide to part ways with Kang, what’s the plan? According to Variety, insiders reveal there have been discussions to reunite the original squad for an “Avengers” film. The lineup would feature the return of Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., and Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson, who were both written off in “Endgame.”

It seems like this route is under serious consideration by them, but it comes with a high cost.

The studio has not yet made a final decision regarding the return of the actors. However, it would cost a lot of money to secure their services. According to insiders, Robert Downey Jr. was paid approximately $25 million for his role in “Iron Man 3.”

The decision to bring back Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff would undoubtedly create a lot of buzz and excitement, but it could also undermine the emotional impact of their departures in Avengers: Endgame. Marvel Studios often prides itself on being innovative and full of new ideas, but reviving these characters would suggest otherwise.
Instead of focusing on old characters, Marvel could expand its universe by introducing more heroes who haven’t yet been featured in the MCU. With so many possibilities, why not prioritize bringing the X-Men into the mix?
